Meet Richard: The Rooster With a Lot to Crow About

Who is Richard the Raunchy Rooster? Meet the fictional troublemaker behind our New Hampshire rubs and sauces.

The Dirty Dish · Meet Richard: The Rooster With a Lot to Crow About

There’s a rooster at the center of this operation, and he is absolutely convinced the entire backyard belongs to him. His name is Richard. He wears sunglasses when the weather doesn’t call for them, takes his grilling very seriously, and has never knowingly passed up the opportunity for a dramatic entrance.

Meet Richard the Raunchy Rooster. He’s a little cocky. Don’t be a Richard.

A mascot, not a military rank

Richard is a fictional character, inspired by the cheerful chaos of farm life and the kind of backyard cook who has opinions about everything from charcoal placement to burger toppings. His field-green cap carries crossed grilling utensils: a spatula and a grill fork. That’s a cooking emblem, not a military insignia. The person behind our veteran-developed rub recipes is real; Richard’s attitude is his own invention.

We could have made a quiet little seasoning company with a tasteful logo in the corner. But we’re building a brand with stories to tell. The products should earn their place in your pantry because they taste good. Richard is here because a little laughter makes a long afternoon at the grill even better.

Serious about flavor, not about himself

What Richard believes is simple. A good rub can make an ordinary Tuesday feel like an occasion. You don’t need a twenty-piece equipment collection to cook something wonderful. You need good ingredients, a manageable fire, food-safety basics, and the willingness to pay attention.

Start with Original Recipe when you want a familiar barbecue backbone. Reach for Prime Cut when beef is on the menu. Bird Dog belongs in the chicken conversation. And the others? There’s plenty of room to explore. These are different blends, not a fictional one-rub-fits-everything miracle.

Born from a real North Country story

Raunchy Rooster Rubs & Sauces is connected to Legacy Acres at Stearns Brook Farm in Milan, New Hampshire. That’s where the small-batch rub story lives. Our founder’s military service is part of the family story, and veteran-developed is a statement about that real background—not a claim that a cartoon rooster holds a rank or that anyone officially endorses our brand.

The sauces planned for the collection have a different production story, so we’ll identify their actual manufacturer when those products are ready rather than calling everything farm-made. It matters to us that customers can tell the difference between fun copy and truthful product information.

Here’s what Richard wants you to do

Invite someone over. Fire up your grill safely. Try a flavor you’ve never used before. Read the actual directions on your food thermometer. And remember that mistakes happen, even to the self-appointed ruler of the chicken yard.

Bigger. Bolder. Better BBQ. For people who go hard in the backyard. That’s the mission. Richard just provides the feathers and unsolicited commentary.
